Navigating the Festive Season with Resilience and Innovation https://meetmumz.com/motherfounder/2023/10/24/navigating-the-festive-season-with-resilience-and-innovation/ https://meetmumz.com/motherfounder/2023/10/24/navigating-the-festive-season-with-resilience-and-innovation/#respond Tue, 24 Oct 2023 08:19:11 +0000 https://meetmumz.com/motherfounder/?p=1173

As the leaves turn brilliant shades of crimson and gold, and the air becomes crisp and invigorating, there’s no mistaking that the season of festivities is upon us. The months leading up to the year-end are filled with a whirlwind of holidays, celebrations, and traditions. It’s a time for joy, connection, and reflection. Yet, for busy mother founders, this season can often bring a unique set of challenges, leaving them caught between the magic of the festivities and the overwhelm of juggling their many responsibilities.

The life of a motherfounder is a delicate balancing act on the best of days. Managing a household, nurturing a family, and steering a business venture can be exhilarating, but it can also be overwhelming. When you add the hustle and bustle of the holiday season into the mix, it can become a high-stakes juggling act. This time of year brings with it a beautiful tapestry of celebrations, but it can also mean an increased workload, whether it’s planning family gatherings, shopping for gifts, or handling year-end business matters.

One remarkable aspect of the season is the creative and entrepreneurial spirit that it inspires. Across the world, there are founders who have harnessed the festive spirit to create businesses that not only celebrate the season but also make life easier for fellow mothers and families. These innovative founders have not only embraced the magic of the season but have found ways to share it with others.

Like we have Seema Chand, As a single mother and founder of Rigouts, her story is one of resilience and empowerment. Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship she is driven by her passion for sustainable fashion. Rigouts is her way of making a positive impact, inspiring others to embrace conscious choices and redefine traditional fashion.

And then we also have women like Nivvy, who lives 2 separate lives! A medical scientist by day who travels and trains other scientists on medical devices and medical tests and a dancer and jewelry designer in her downtime. She loves to travel, and enjoys her tea and Punjabi pop music! Her clay based customized jewellery brings with it the spirit of Joy and Celebration!

Then In the bustling streets of Hong Kong, we find another extraordinary mother founder, Nat, who embodies the spirit of resilience and innovation. Nat runs not one but two businesses, each dedicated to improving the lives of mothers and families. Her first venture specializes in health and mental wealth, offering a range of services that empower mothers to prioritize self-care, well-being, and mental health in their daily lives. Recognizing the challenges that often accompany motherhood, she has created services that provides support, resources, and guidance for navigating the intricacies of mental well-being. Her second business, driven by her passion for sustainable fashion, focuses on delivering high-quality baby products. In an era when safety and comfort are paramount, she’s curated a selection of items that not only meet the stringent standards but also ensure that mothers can trust the products they use.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the festive season, we also encounter Kavitha, a remarkable motherfounder with a keen eye for creativity. Kavitha’s passion for art and design led her to establish a business that specializes in colorful portraits and unique home decor products. Her handcrafted creations are a fusion of vibrant colors and intricate designs, each piece reflecting her artistic uniqueness.

Vibhuti Gupta’s return to the fashion industry is nothing short of inspirational. After an eight-year hiatus dedicated to nurturing her family, she is now embarking on a new chapter of her career. Her decision to resume work, fueled by her enduring passion for fashion, reflects her resilience and determination. It’s a reminder that life’s various chapters, including those focused on family, can coexist with professional ambitions. Vibhuti’s story is a testament to the idea that it’s never too late to reignite one’s career, and her return to the fashion world is a celebration of the strength and drive that mothers like her bring to every aspect of their lives.

And last but not least we have Adel, who just celebrated her 365 days in business, made her first hire, and relentlessly works with fellow founders helping them to amplify their brand storytelling on social and build a following of loyal fans. No matter your industry or business size, she brings your brand to life and makes social media easy.

These founders, among others, have not only navigated the challenges of the festive season but have also leveraged their experiences to offer solutions and inspiration to fellow mothers. They understand the delicate balance that comes with being both a mother and a founder and have made it their mission to make the season more manageable and enjoyable for everyone.

If you’re a motherfounder feeling the weight of the holidays, join us on this journey of self-care, time management, and celebration. Let’s embrace the season and create lasting memories with our loved ones while also nurturing our businesses. The magic of the season is within reach, even for those of us with a busy entrepreneur’s heart and a mother’s soul, and the stories of founders like Nat and Seema remind us that it’s possible to not only survive but thrive during this season.

Who is Sara Madera from Plan Creatively?

My Story:

When I was pregnant with my first child, I was sure having a child wouldn’t affect my ambition. Sure, I’d have a kid, but it wouldn’t change who I was! And even after I quit my job during maternity leave, I searched for moments (nap time or after my daughter went to bed) to be myself, not someone’s mom. I was exhausted, yes because I was up all night taking care of a small human, but also from trying to be “the same as I was before.”

Finally, after 4 years of pregnancy and breastfeeding and running a marketing & communications business on the side, I thought I was ready to get back into the full-time work force, out of house and be a working professional again.

I threw myself into work. I took on extra assignments and worked nights and weekends. I was exhausted and stressed at home, often still working when I was there. I quickly grew unhappy and the last straw when was when I got sick that left me unable to leave the couch for months, unable to play and connect much with my active children.

It made me realize that I needed to leave that job, which I did. And I took the next year to heal, both my health and my relationship with my kids. The pandemic actually helped as it forced our time to be focused on our little unit, outside of working hours.

When I talk to new moms struggling with their sense of self outside of motherhood, my heart goes out to them. There needs to be more resources to support this transition — and that’s where I come in.

Why do you do what you do? I became a career coach for working moms during the pandemic, when I realized we were holding up the world. Not enough to have a full plate of work and home life, we also had to become teachers, nurses, epidemiologist and so much more. Women started leaving their jobs because they couldn’t quit their roles as parents, and that’s when I thought—I can help.

I love bringing all of my experiences to my coaching; I’ve had various careers, starting in theatre and events (and opening Hong Kong Disneyland), running an arts education organization, consulting with a school district and running marketing and communications teams across Asia. I’ve moved more than 9 times (about half of those with kids), and these experiences remind me to be open minded to my clients’ goals, as everyone’s journey is beautiful.

I now work with women who are looking to go back to work after maternity leave or a break after kids, moms who are trying to find peace and happiness between the push and pull of work ambition and being the mother they want to be, women who want to change careers after finding their career no longer fits after having kids, working moms who are managing their careers through international moves and moms who are starting their own business, which is a lot of fun.
What would you like to say to fellow mothers or women thinking of starting a business?

My best tip for any working mom is to be clear on what you want for your career, for your family and for yourself. Because it’s impossible to do everything (no- really, it is!), so you have to know what’s important to you, and what’s not. This will allow you to be you, and manage the mom guilt while being your best self.

Who is Camilla Knight from Creative Connection?

What Was your crossroad Moment?

As Camilla says:

My crossroad moment: My crossroads happened before I was a mum. I was living in London and had a demanding corporate job, I was young and still in ‘people pleaser’ mode which eventually led to a panic attack. When I went to my Doctor he said ‘you need to learn to breath, there is a yoga studio above the surgery’.. and that was it! I suddenly realised that there was a different way to live a life and BE and I realised that I am the master of my own destiny as I stepped out of victim mode and started to create a life i’d dreamed of. I had my son at 40 years old with ease, he was a dream come true (having been told I couldn’t have children). I am so grateful that I can be around for him fully by not working a 9-5 yes there are sacrifices that come with working sporadic hours and having an inconsistent income but its totally worth it!

Who is Rani Sherin Idris from the Consciousness network?

As Rani says:

Growing up, I had many issues that ranged from rejection to estrangement. I unfortunately did not know that help was available, so I coped by denying my issues, distracting myself and pretending that all was well.

When my load got heavier, I had to change tactics, I DIY-ed managing my issues and caring for myself. I read up, did a masters in religious studies, and helped myself – that’s why its called self-help, right? Yes it helped, but it was a painful decade of slow healing.

When I became a mother, I had severe postpartum issues and I was adviced that I should seek help. I reluctantly did, because notse I believe that a stranger would understand my struggles and my pain?

Five years later, I am in a much better place today! Not perfect, far from it, I am still a work in progress, but how I truly wish I knew that I could seek help much much earlier – it would have saved the younger and vulnerable me from suffering alone in silence for all those years!

I have had the privilege of being cared for by passionate and professional therapists, coaches and teachers. They facilitated my detachment from the stories that trapped me in a vicious loop and into the zone of healing, clarity, love and purposeful action. My journey’s highlight is that I am not… alone!

It gives me deep joy to be a facilitator of personal growth. To me, this is my highest calling and in line with the nurturing role of a mother. My clarity and self-awareness allow me to be a present mother to my two children. And their presence helps me connect with my inner child and my sense of wonder and mystery!

I know keep in mind that help is always available to us in every milestone of our journey. we can deepen our awareness, master our emotions, form deep, authentic relationships, communicate with clarity and unlock our fullest potential. And I look forward to seeing how you change the world by showing up as who you were always meant to be.

Who is Geetika Agarwal from Geetika Agarwal Coaching?

I was born in Kenya to upper-middle-class Indian parents. Both educated. Both were extremely happy at the birth of a girl child. I have always been treated at par with my brother. Taught to be fiercely independent, opinionated, well-read, and allowed to chase my dreams.

We moved to India in 1994, as a lot of the people we knew were moving back due to educational and familial reasons.

Excelled in school, bagging top-ranking positions not because I am intelligent or clever but because the most important attribute that has come to me by my genes – to work hard.

Got into a good engineering college. Started my working life in a good IT services company.

BUT

Something changed. On paper, everything looks great, too good to be true. Yet here I was feeling empty, without any purpose extremely sad and unhappy. For 4 years I woke up crying not wanting to go to work.

My parents moving to another city gave me the strength and courage to quit this safety net I had created for myself and go look for something that would satisfy me, and lead me toward my purpose and calling.

I happened to join learning and development. I began to enjoy it. I also excelled at it.

Life throws curve balls when you least expect it to.

I got married and moved countries. Very happy events.

I gave up my job. Very confusing period of my life.

While undergoing this transition –

I lost my confidence.
I lost independence.
I lost focus on my goals.

It took me 4 years before I could finally find my ground.

AND

In 2020, right when the pandemic hit, I got the wonderful news that I am going to be a mother. I gave birth to a lively, lovely bouncy happy child in Dec 2020 exactly in the midst of the pandemic. I went through my pregnancy and postpartum all alone as my family could not travel due to travel restrictions.

It was a very challenging period YET

I was confident, raring to go, and totally aware of how my time would look like with an infant in my arms.

This is what inspired me to start the program ‘Women in Transition’. We also have a small community of women on Facebook with the same name and in Dec 2021, I launched an activity book – Women in Transition available on Amazon Kindle that outlines short, simple, and introspective activities that will help Women to develop their own goals using their own strengths and awareness about themselves.

I am a leadership coach and I help women in leadership positions and women in transition understand, analyze, and OWN their stories and show the world what they are capable of.

Who is Iva Perez from Momergy Movement?

Not so long ago, I was a sabotaging overachiever. And I was also feeling like a crappy mom. I was stretched out thin, trying to juggle so many balls in the air, attempting to grow my business and raising my little ones. Wanting to do it perfectly and on my own. And I was failing miserably at everything!

I would snap at my kids and blow up like Mommy Volcano, only to feel guilty immediately afterwards.

I would promise myself I wouldn’t do it again. And the next morning, before 8am, there I was, getting triggered and over-reacting.

Businesswise, things were not better.

I was working around the clock, staying up late, hustling and putting in so much effort… and yet…

it always seemed…

I…couldn’t… push…through….

Until I became tired of being tired. Why was the life I desired and strived for NOT available to me???

I felt I had lost myself. I didn’t like the way I was showing up as a mother, a wife, and as a business owner. I was looking for answers.

And then the lightbulb moment came. I found a way to bring my subconscious mind onboard. The part of me that is 30,000 times more powerful than my conscious mind and was inadvertent, sabotaging the show. I began to learn how to talk to it in a way that it would grant me what I wanted. I had found a way back. Back to who I truly was. That harsh, critical inner voice became a true cheerleader, friendly, patient, understanding… I was making decisions without feeling guilty or judging myself. I felt mentally calm and expansive.

Like I could finally breathe!

I was able to enjoy the life I had in the moment. I was finally writing the chapter in the book of my life where the FUN PART actually begins. (and the ANXIOUS PART exits the stage to the right). When I experienced this rapid transformational experience that CHANGED me for the better, I knew I had found my purpose and passion in life.

As a mother/founder I realized we are truly a unique breed, raising a family and growing a business while sharing our unique gifts with the world. Doing what we love and loving what we do is a great privilege.

One that I am eternally grateful for. I realize not everyone is able to spend their adult life following their true passion. This is certainly a privilege I don’t take lightly. This is a place of full empowered saturation where I deeply know where I belong and what I was meant to do. To change the planet, we need to change families. When we collectively come together, experiencing true authentic sisterhood, we go back to our families and to our kids as a better version of ourselves. As the gatekeepers of the family, we get to create a powerful backbone on which a new generation is nurtured. Children that get to grow up thriving, free, living their life purpose, fully connected and changing the world!

This is the reason why I do what I do. Because the more healing we can do collectively, the higher we all rise. I want more children to have successful moms, with successful businesses. So we can change the course of the planet for the better. While enjoying our unique journeys along the way.
